Christian philosophy claims that God is 3 persons (Father, Son, Spirit), yet 1 god.
Biblical Evidence for the Triunity of God
1. God is one deity
Deut. 6:4 “Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!”
Isaiah 46:9 “Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me."
2. Father is God
Phil. 2:11 "...and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father."
3. Son is God
Heb. 1:8 "...but of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, and a righteous scepter is the scepter of your kingdom."
4. Spirit is God
Acts 5:3-4 Ananias is said to have lied to the Holy Spirit (v.3), and to have lied to God (in the same situation, v.4)
5. The Equality of the Three
Matt. 28:19 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit."
Important Questions
Q. Isn't being both three and one a contradiction? No thing can be both 3 and 1.
A. Christian philosophy does not say that any one thing is both 3 and 1. Christian philosophy says there are 3 persons and 1 god. They are different ways of describing different states of the same substance. H20 has 3 states, solid, liquid, and vapor. But it is all the same, H20.
Q. How can Christ be equal with God if he was begotten? (John 1:18 “No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.")
A. The word begotten here is monogenes. Whenever a word is compounded with -genes, it refers to the nature of the word, not its derivation. So here, 'begotten' refers to the nature of Christ, meaning He was unique and alone. (Kittel, Gerhard, and Friedrich, Gerhard, Editors, The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, Abridged in One Volume, Grand Rapids, Michigan: William B. Eerdmans Publishing Company, 1985.) This means the word does not refer to the first time Christ was created, but to the fact that He was the lone/unique representative of God on earth.
Q. How can Jesus and the Holy Spirit intercede (to God) for us if they are God? (Romans 8:34 - Jesus intercedes; Romans 8:26 - Spirit intercedes)
A. Since there are 3 persons, there are unique roles. Back to the H20 analogy, liquid water does not do all the same things that water vapor does - but they are still the same compound. However, we know that water vapor, when put into the right circumstances, is liquid water, and can then do the same things as liquid water. In the same way, God can operate through each of the three persons. One difference between water and God in this analogy is that water must rely on external circumstances to operate in different roles while God can do so whenever He pleases.
Note: water has a point when it is existing as liquid, vapor, and solid - this is how God always is - at perfect equilibrium.[http://www.physlink.com/education/askexperts/ae282.cfm]
can't think of more questions atm.
